Guide to buying better potatoes
The next time you are buying potatoes it may be wise to consider the following
Look for potatoes that are free from cuts and blemishes. Also avoid badly sprouted or shrivelled potatoes
Always avoid potatoes that have a green colouring to them. This 'greening' is caused by exposure to natural or artifical light. The green portions contain alkaloid solanin which causes a bitter flavour and may be posionous when consumed in great quantities
Always insist on informative labeling. potatoes must display counrty of origin, traceability codes, variety, best before date and relevant packers number.
Of course, for certainty you can pick up a pack of Wexford Potatoes and you know it's been treated right from farm to fork.
